A day at the pond.

The winter has been rather warm here this year, but when we watched the weather we were a little excited that there would be rain. I know there have been parts of the country that have had more than their share of rain/snow this year, and please believe me when I say that it is "too bad". We hadn't had a good rain for about 6 months and, living in a desert, when it does rain it can actually be a treat. The first storm system that went through didn't really accumulate all that much rain, it was just drizzly all the time. The next one that came through about a week later dumped on us and left us with Franklin Lake. As the picture above shows, the lake may be a little polluted with a shovel, various weeds and a green ball. None the less, the kids grabbed their fishing poles and went outside for a little R&R at the lakeside. There was a lot of casting going on but not a lot of biting. At one point Parker cast so hard that the line broke and the bobber that was on the line flew over the fence. He thought that he finally learned to cast really good, but as it turned out he can just throw really far. Natalie on the other hand had a bit of luck. She cast out and actually caught something. A weed. She proudly removed it from the line and the fishing expedition was over. I've been thinking that it would be kind of funny to keep some goldfish and guppies on hand for those days when we have the unexpected rain storm or flash flood. That way they could actually be fishing for something, but wouldn't it be a little cruel to the fish?

Good job...welcome to the white-TRASH club. We should hang. When we go sledding we use things like plastic Target bags & tape in place of snow boots. Love it!
